BALO KNIFE RACK
PROJECT OUTLINE
During the design of the BALO Knife Rack we had a prominent sustainability goalunder Cradle 2 Cradle (C2C) guidelines.
BALO provides users a simple way to display their high-end knife collection, while ensuring those knives are stored correctly and safely.
The inclusion of two cutting boards ensure everything needed for meal preparation is in one convenient location.
BALO was designed with minimalism as a priority. We wanted the BALO to fit into any kitchen regardless of kitchen style.
INITIAL CONCEPT
BALO comes equipped with two cutting boards so you can have multiple options at you finger tips.
BALO displays knife collection prominently.
BALO is fastened together with dowel joints to avoid harmful adhesive alternatives.
DEVELOPMENT
Simplified the design, and added a faceplate so knives are displayed at all times.
Cutting Boards resized for ease of access and implementation.
Refined the details of the design.
We began establishing a design language.
Manufacturing plan implemented.
Reworked the cutting board position in order to make them easier to access.
User experience mapped and tested to ensure BALO is effective.
FINAL PRODUCT

With the BALO every material 100% natural and renewable.
Dovetail joinery method is included to avoid the use of toxic adhesive.
Cutting boards are easily accessible and easy to store again after use.
Implemented aluminum dowels to fasten the faceplate to main body.

With BALO we want to design minimally while catering to knife enthusiasts.
It’s a charming way to display your knife collection in a safe, temperate environment.
The two cutting boards are easy to access, and is simple to put away. You have everything you need to make your next meal with BALO.
