THE ENDEAVOUR
THE ENDEAVOUR
PROJECT OUTLINE
The objective of this project was to create a chair design that is for the common areas in an educational institution.
We were asked to use Humber’s new CTI building as reference material and inspiration for he design.
We decided it would be best to design a workstation for our students. This gives them an area to work between classes.
We wanted to focus on productivity of students using the chair, so we minimized the back support, to promote a forward sitting position. This is proven to increase productivity and focus.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENTS
FINAL DESIGN
Ensuring to stay true to the surrounding environment this chair has been designed for is incredibly important. The primary metal supporting structure previously, has been replaced with bent steel tubing to better capture the honest design language within the Humber BCTI Building.
Rubber feet have been incorperated to ensure structural stability, and steadiness in the Endeavour.
Lastly, the upholstery has been changed from one to two pieces. This ensured a simple and effective upholstery process during manufacture.
After developing effective sketch models to better represent the full size version of the chair, the team moved on to producing a final prototype.
ENDEAVOUR MODEL DEVELOPMENT
A mold is created for to create the bent plywood base. Metal fabricators are contacted for pipe bending.
Cushions are upholstered, bent plywood is stained, and swivel table is installed.
